About Epicurean
CautionMid-depth Coral Gardens
Epicureans are mid-sized predators that lock onto whatever prey they last successfully hunted and ignore other threats while pursuing it. This makes encounters easier than the size suggests: stay outside its current focus and it will swim past as if you are not there. Provoking one is rarely worth the effort. Drop a small lure or break line of sight to reset the lock. The species is useful as a soft check on whether you understand a biome, because the prey it prefers rotates as the area is disturbed.
How to handle an encounter
- · Approach only with a plan. The species reacts to crowding or contact.
- · Scan from outside its threat radius before considering a closer pass.
- · Move on once you have the data; do not linger near the spawn.
