About Hycean

CautionOpen mid-water

Hyceans are translucent, jelly-like organisms that drift in the open mid-water layer. Their long trailing tendrils sting on contact and the contact zone is much larger than the body suggests, so silhouettes are misleading. Approach from the side, not from below, and never under a Hycean swarm. The sting drains oxygen but is rarely lethal alone. They are useful as a movement-pace check; a tile dense with Hyceans means slower, more careful traversal, which is often correct anyway because the bigger predators in the same biome use the same drift channels.

How to handle an encounter

  • · Approach only with a plan. The species reacts to crowding or contact.
  • · Scan from outside its threat radius before considering a closer pass.
  • · Move on once you have the data; do not linger near the spawn.
