About Periscopic Clowncrab
SafeCoral domes
Periscopic Clowncrabs are small inhabitants of coral domes, recognisable by the tall eye stalk that periodically extends above the dome surface to scan surroundings. They are completely passive and tolerate close observation. Catching one for a scan is straightforward, and the shell salvage stacks for a small organic-matter return. They make a good early-game subject because they confirm a coral dome is not currently sheltering a Coral Crab — the two species rarely share a single dome, so seeing a clowncrab eye stalk is an informal all-clear before a Quartz pickup.
How to handle an encounter
- · Approach freely for scans and harvest.
- · Use the species as a soft biome cue — sudden absence usually signals trouble.
- · Cooked or salted variants stack well for long dives.
