Waxmoons are edible upper-layer fish, common and easy to harvest. They form stable schools and tolerate a moderately close approach, which makes them a primary protein source through the early and mid game. Their meat keeps well salted, and they cook efficiently in the basic Fabricator without any special handling. They are also one of the most reliable biome cues: a Waxmoon school is a strong sign that nothing dangerous has been through recently, and a sudden absence is one of the earliest indicators that something has changed in the area worth investigating before going deeper.
How to handle an encounter
- · Approach freely for scans and harvest.
- · Use the species as a soft biome cue — sudden absence usually signals trouble.
- · Cooked or salted variants stack well for long dives.
